Fagus sylvatica

Fagus sylvatica

European beech

Planted in 1922

Source: Grown from a seed collected at Flanders

A note written on the government index card for this tree provided the record of its unique historical provenance. Who picked up the seed in Flanders, brought it home, germinated it, and then planted the small seedling in the Park a century ago? We don’t know but we thank the record keeper for noting this interesting detail about the tree’s history.
